Dental Implants

They are a safe and esthetic alternative to crowns, bridges and dentures, which function and look like natural teeth. They work best in patients with sufficient jawbone to hold the titanium implants securely.

As the implants embed into the jaw and new bone growth is stimulated, it locks the implant into place. New teeth are placed into position, so the new teeth function like natural teeth. They are the right choice for those who are unhappy with their natural teeth, dentures or bridges, and who are willing to take the time and effort to commit to implants. They can also prevent deterioration of the jawbone due to disuse atrophy where natural teeth are missing. Implants are for single or multiple missing teeth, including full sets.

The Procedure

The surgery is performed in the office under local anesthesia or sedation. A small incision is made in the gum and a hole is slowly and gently drilled into the bone. Then the implant is twisted into position. A temporary cap is attached and the incision is closed. The implant heals over several months, then a post is attached and a permanent artificial replacement tooth is attached. With good maintenance and ongoing dental care, the implants should function for years.
